UKCA & CE CERTIFICATION TO BS EN 1090-1

BACKGROUND TO UKCA & CE REQUIREMENTS

It is a requirement for fabricators that supply structural steel & aluminium fabrications into structures in the UK to be certified to BS EN 1090-1. This was previously referred to as 'CE Marking' when the UK was part of the EU, but more recently since Brexit it has been redefined as 'UKCA Marking.'

We have a highly successful track record assisting fabricators achieve certification to BS EN 1090-1. This fundamentally requires the development & implementation of a 'Factory Production Control (FPC)' system.

3-STEP PROCESS TO CERTIFICATION

We can offer a STRAIGHTFORWARD, 3-STEP PROCESS for fabricators to develop & implement an FPC system  to achieve their UKCA / CE Marking certification, as follows:

STEP 1: Presentation: 'BS EN 1090: Requirements for the UKCA Marking of Fabrications for Steel & Aluminium Structures.'

The presentation outlines the Factory Production Control (FPC) system requirements for fabricators to become certified to 'UKCA Mark' their structural steel and/or structural aluminium fabrications

The concept of 'Execution Class (EXC)' is also explained, as is a summary of the quality requirements for the different Execution Classes.

The final Certification Audit process to be carried out by a 3rd party Conformity Assessment Body would also be explained.

The presentation is offered LIVE ONLINE of about 3 hours duration, or it can also be presented ON-SITE at the fabricator's premises.

A full-colour, Training Handbook comprising a transcript of the presentation would also be provided.

STEP 2: FPC System Document Templates.

Following on from the presentation, we would then provide our editable, electronic FPC System Document Templates.

Our templates provide a straightforward method for fabricators to develop & implement their FPC system.

The editable, electronic Document Templates are written in 'Microsoft 365' WORD format and include the following documents:

STEP 3: On-Site Compliance Audit.

Following on from your implementation of your FPC system, we would then provide our On-Site Compliance Audit to be carried out at your premises to assess your FPC system's compliance to the standard. This would be carried out  by our Lead Auditor, who is highly experienced in BS EN 1090-1 FPC System Auditing.

Any deficiencies identified in the Compliance Audit could then be addressed prior to your final Certification Audit, which would be carried out by a 3rd party Conformity Assessment Body

We would also advise on Conformity Assessment Bodies to contact & how to apply for the Certification Audit.

'Responsible Welding Coordination' Training COURSE.

It is also a requirement in BS EN 1090-1 that structural steel and/or structural aluminium fabricators who conduct welding operations should have appointed a competent person known as a 'Responsible Welding Coordinator.'

This should be somebody with the technical knowledge, skills & understanding on the welding processes; Metallurgy; welding inspection requirements;  Welding Procedure & Welder Qualification requirements & the specific weld quality requirements for structural steel and/or structural aluminium welds.

In this regard, we offer our highly regarded training courses in 'Responsible Welding Coordination (RWC.)' This training we originally developed in 2013. Since that we time we have successfully trained many trainees & it has also become widely accepted by Conformity Assessment Bodies for CE Marking & UKCA Marking certification to BS EN 1090-1.

Further information on our range of RWC training courses can be obtained by clicking on the following link: 'Responsible Welding Coordination (RWC)' Training.
